It is a tree of everlasting leaf, of rounded glass and thick trunk, being able to reach up 8 to 10 m. The branches are thick and of grey bark. The fruit is the olive, very valued, not only for its fruit to consume it, also for the extraction of olive oil.

There are diverse types of olive threes, as Chorrúo ó Faldúo that refers to the weeping aspect of the branches.
Hojiblanca or Lucentina, the name owes to the color of the leaves, having a greyish bundle and a silver back, but there are many more: between them; Lechín, Manzanilla, Bird Dealer, Picual...
There are several pests an deseades, as Avariosis that is caused by the mite "Calepitrimerus vitis", the "Olive soap" which produces a very high acidity in the oil

I'll tell you about the olive tree planted in my house seven years ago. It was a small, weak and helpless tree which over the time has natured and become bigger.
Now it is a strong and robust tree which gives a lot of productivity for our benefit each year.
What I can say is that the olive is a fantastic gift that the nature has given us and which today is essential to our everyday life.

A Mediterranean tree

The Olive Tree is one of the most typical trees in the Mediterranean countries. Olive Trees are grown extensively in Portugal, Spain, Southern France, Italy and Greece.
The fruit of the olive tree is the olive, which is used for producing olive oil, which is a very healthy and precious, liquid used for many dishes in the Mediterranean cuisine. Olive oil is becoming very popular all around the world not only because it tastes really good, but also because it is vey healthy.
Olive are also vey tasty. There are many varities. The olive trees is also part of the Mediterranean culture.
In fact, Olives trees are mentioned in many novels poems and songs in the Spanish literature.

The Olive Oil

The Olive Oil is vegetable oil from the harvested olives. The olive has bunch oil. This oil is removed from the nature olive, the olive has more oil in autumn. The olive can't be eaten because of its bitterness. The olive should be collected as soon as possible to avoid oxidation. There are several types of olive oils: Extra virgin olive oils, virgin olive oils, olive pomace oils. These oils am used in kinds of food preparation.

An olive cake recipe
A simple to prepare but tasty, ideal for those who like light biscuits, fluffy and moist. This cake you can make different flavors: fruit, chocolate, coconut, marble... as you like.

2 cups flour
A coffee cup of olive oil 1 cup sugar Lemon zest Vanilla extract A splash of soda 4 eggs

Mix oil and sugar, add eggs and then breaking them with a fork. Add the essence and lemon zest, mix well without beating.
Vuélcala sifted flour and little by little in the previous preparation, interspersed with a splash of soda. If you want you can add chunks of apple in this step.
Lubricates cake pan and place the dough. Cook until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

The olive in cosmetics... ¡A big surprise !

For me the olive tree has always been unique. I remember that my grandfather always told me that the olive was one of the most profitable trees, but wasn’t interested so far.
Something that surprised me is that olive oil is considered the first cosmetic in history.
The first to use it were Egyptians, to make perfumes, on a hair , treatment for massage, therapy etc.

It a very good natural methods of helping today’s cosmetic.

Olive oil has many cosmetic properties, among which:
-Restores moisture levels of the skin, since olive oil has large doses of essential fatty acids.
- Rebuild the cell membranes of the skin, thanks to the action of oleic acid.
- Used as an emollient for body massages.
- Tones the epidermis and gives strength
- Skin protection against external environmental agents

The first olive trees were grown in Palestina.The fruit of these trees is the olive and olive oil. the cientific name is olea Europea .this trees is grown only in Mediterranea places.this fruit is used a lot of in cooking and medicine .
Cordoba is the largest producer of olive. In the islam it is very a very fruit important because the prophet ate it and it appears in the Holy Book (Koran).In the islamic medicine it is used for the skin because it is rich in vitamins and it is very healing.

The olive tree has always been in my family, we have a long history dealing with olvies, from my great grandfather to my father and descendants.
When olives season comes my whole family works hasvesting the olives, so we have oil throughout the year.
I like this tradition as the whole family gets together anda have a great fun.
From a very ealy age my parents taught me the importance of this tree and we can enjoy thanks to the oil and many products like olives, cream...

The Olive. Religious use

Olive oil also has religious symbolism for healing and strength and to consecration—God's setting a person or place apart for special work. This may be related to its ancient use as a medicinal agent and for cleansing athletes by slathering them in oil then scraping them.
In Jewish observance, olive oil is the only fuel allowed to be used in the seven-branched Menorah (not a candelabrum since the use of candles was not allowed) in the
Mishkan service during the Exodus of the tribes of Israel from Egypt, and later in the permanent Temple in Jerusalem. It was obtained by using only the first drop from
a squeezed olive and was consecrated for use only in the Temple by the priests, which is where the expression pure olive oil originates, stored in special containers.
Another use of oil in Jewish religion is for anointing the kings of the Kingdom of Israel, originating from King David. Tzidkiyahu was the last anointed King of Israel.
One unusual use of olive oil in the Talmud is for bad breath, by creating a water-oil-salt mouthwash.
The Catholic and Orthodox Churches use olive oil for the Oil of Catechumens (used to bless and strengthen those preparing for Baptism) and Oil of the Sick (used to confer the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick). Olive oil mixed with a perfuming agent such as balsam is consecrated by bishops as Sacred Chrism, which is used to confer the sacrament of Confirmation (as a symbol of the strengthening of the Holy Spirit), in the rites of Baptism and the ordination of priests and bishops, in the consecration of altars and churches, and, traditionally, in the anointing of monarchs at their coronation.
Eastern Orthodox Christians still use oil lamps in their churches, home prayer corners and in the cemeteries.
In Islam, olive oil is mentioned in the Quranic verse: "Allah is the light of the Heavens and the Earth. An example of His light is like a lantern inside which there is a torch, the torch is in a glass bulb, the glass bulb is like a bright planet lit by a blessed olive tree, neither Eastern nor Western, its oil almost glows, even without fire touching it, light upon light." The Qur’an also mentions olives as a sacred plant: "By the fig and the olive, and the Mount of Sinai, and this secure city." Olive oil is also reported to have been recommended by the Prophet Muhammad in the following terms: "Consume olive oil and anoint it upon your bodies since it is of the blessed tree." He also stated that it cures 70 diseases.
Olive oil is also used in soap making and as lamp oil. It also makes an excellent lubricant, and can be used in place of machine oil.

The word Cordoba means oil mill. The most important olive groves that are in Spain are in Priego of Cordoba
and Seville.
The oil of Cordoba is one of the best in Spain.
During the XV and XVII it was consolidated and exponded geographically longe plantations are located in the heart
of Andalucia, comprising the provinces of Cordoba,Jaen and Seville.

From the beginning of the history, many generations have related the olive tree with life. That's because of his long lifetime.

I believe that an olive tree is a silent and still observer. It does not call our attention, but it remains, it is there. An olive tree can have seen millions of scenes, millions of foreign moments along its life. It is a box of memories. It can have attended wars, romances, arguments, scenes of harvests, romantic walks... Without nobody noticing that it's been there for hundred of years,watching memorables moments.
Until the day in which its leaves dry off or its trunk cracks, the day of his death.

During the history of art, the olive tree has been motive of inspiration; a lot of pieces of art are based on the olive tree, the olive and the olive oil.
Some important researches have also been painted such as:

·Olive tree in the Gethsemaní’s garden, by Vasiliy Polenov, in 1882.
·Fruit in a cavity of wood of olive tree, by Darbishine Stephen.
·Olive tree in Corfú, by Hercules Brabazon.
In Andalucía a lot of painters have painted about the olive tree on Jaén. Also there are sculptures in bones of olives; the author of this type of art is Manuel Segura Aparicio.
The world of the cinema shows the big fields of olive tree with landscapes of great beauty.Some of these films are:

·Zetounal, by Lianan Badr.
With the wood of the olive tree then have been created a lot of sculptures. The King’s scepters, the shields of combat and the images of gods are some examples.
Nowadays, in Castro del Río, a lot of furniture is made using the wood of the olive tree.

The olive is a tree that has a brown trunk and green leafy. It has white small flowers which become olives. It is a very popular tree because of its fruit and oil quality. It is usually found in warm climates, for example, in southern Spain.
The olives are very bitter, green or purple and with a large hard bone. it is used for feeding or for obtaining oil. A way of eating the green olives is to remove the seed or bone and fill the gap with anchovies, pepper and almonds.
When you get a good quality oil from olives it has exceptional qualities that make it ideal for dressing and fried food. The classic system is the pressure, obtaining the paste from crashed olives which is mixed and distributed to add pressure in hydraulic presses.The olive

The olive tree and Greek culture

The olive tree, its fruits and its oil are related to Greek culture. Even the origin of the great goddess Athena is associated with these trees. It is said that the goddess to grew an olive tree from the tip of her arrow.

The god Poseidon and Athena always fought for Athens until one day Zeus organized a contest where they had to bring the most useful gift to humanity . The pattern of the city would be the winner.
Poseidon brought a horse and Athena appeared with an olive branch in her hands. She explained the qualities of olive trees: this was a tree that lived many years, the fruit was edible and nutritious and could take a special liquid called oil. As a result defeated Poseidon and Athena became the patron saint of the city that bears her name, Athens. The ancient Greeks quickly learned to cultivate this plant that became a symbol.

Today the olive oil is only used for meals throughout the continent and is a sta ple in the Mediterranean diet.

Olive History
The olive tree is form the Oleaceae family, prized since antiquity for its fruits, olives and oil quality obtained from them. It originated in the East and was introduced into Spain by the Phoenicians and Greeks. The Romans expanded their culture throughout all the peninsula and the techniques refined oil production. It was brought to America by the Spanish during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, so it is found in California and parts of South America. Spain is the first place in the production and exportation of olive oil. There is a big variety, mainly: weevil, empeltre, hojiblanca, cornicabra, lechín, chamomile, and picual verdial. Their leaves are small, short and narrow. It is well adaped to poor soils and cold climates. The times of flowering and fruit ripening are late. Currently, 95% of global land of olive is cultivated in the Mediterranean area.

The olive tree is a tree that belongs to the botanical family Oleaceae, and within that family is the only species with edible fruit. Its main features are:
- leaves.
-The trunk.
-The fruit.
- This is a tree originating in the Middle East oleáceo been known for over 6000 years, with twisted trunk, broad crown ramosa.
- In Spain, grown especially in the Mediterranean basin and in mild climates. Currently, 95% of global land is cultivated in the Mediterranean area.

- They are slow-growing trees, but have a great quality
- Reaches a height of 20-25 meters in adulthood and with favorable conditions and a diameter of 8 to 10 meters
- The olive wood is very hard but easy to polish and perfect for carving tools
- As for the fruit, are that the olives intended for oil production are harvested ripe (usually from late December to mid February, depending on the area), and for consumption in the medium maturity (end of November and early December).

The Olive


Olive trees are the oldest fruit trees and certainly are one of the most important fruit trees in history. The olive was native from Asia Minor and spread to Iran, Syria and Palestine to the rest of the Mediterranean basin 6,000 years ago.
In the Mithology ...
the Goddess Athena brought the olive to the Greeks as a gift. Zeus had promised to give Attica to the god or goddess who made the most useful invention. Athena's gift of the olive, useful for light, heat, food, medicine and perfume was picked as a more peaceful invention than Poseidon's horse - a rapid and powerful instrument of war. Athena planted the original olive tree on a rocky hill that we know today as the Acropolis. The olive tree that grows there today is said to have come from the roots of the original tree.

The olive in my familly

In my family, since I was 3, my family have olivos. Long time ago, my mother bought a country house, and with the help of family, build the house again, and also a garden, but even so we had free land we didn't know how to fill. But then, my grandfather had a good idea. He said the plant olive trees would be better, because we had the perfect terrain for cultivation, and olive trees planted around the entire house.Years later grew olive trees, and picked up later were preparing olives by hand. Even today, in season, we return to that house and make the collection of olives in the family.I love do it, because is a tradition, and I'll stay with all my family. I have fun a lot every year with my sister, my cousins, my auncles, my mother, my grandfather, and also some friends os the family.
